How do I open ports in a D-Link router (D1-704P)?

To configure a D-Link router (D1-704P) for incoming TCP connections:

  1. Assign a static IP address to the computer running F2P Server or PC2Me Server. See Assign a Static IP.

  2. Open your D-Link administration program. (Note: specific references below are for a D1-704P router. For other routers, see an excellent FAQ from D-Link TechSupport: How do I open ports on my D-Link router?)

    1. In the D-Link Virtual Server screen, identify your computer as a Virtual Server.

Map Ports (the incoming ports) to it. See screenshot: Virtual Server.

      Field Instructions
      Service Ports Enter a port.
Server IP Enter the static IP address of the computer running 1stWorks products.
      Enable Check the Enable box.
    2. Check the D-Link access controls to ensure that all outgoing ports are connectible.

Access for any group that includes your computer should be set to Block specified ports instead of Allow specific ports, and the list of ports to be blocked should be empty. (Note: this screen controls ports without designating whether the connections are incoming or outgoing.) See screenshot: Access Control.

  3. In your F2P Server or PC2Me Server start-up icon, add the appropriate parameter to identify the port on which incoming connections are expected. For example, if the port mapped to your computer is 8180 then the start-up parameter is -i2.

  4. Re-start your computer.

Repeat this process for each computer that is running F2P Server or PC2Me Server.
